Where is the customised jewellery made?

StyleRocks customised jewellery is made in Australia and all the suppliers we deal with are Australian companies. Each piece of jewellery is made bespoke for each customer.

You can watch a video on how a StyleRocks gemstone ring is made by master craftsmen here.

How close are the images on the website to the actual item?

The final jewellery may vary slightly from the represented image on screen due to a number of factors the alloy proportion in precious metals and the particular item being produced. Our custom made jewellery is made by hand and this hand-made element brings a small degree of variance. Gemstone colour may vary too, this is due actual stones varying from the represented image on screen; this is a result of stone supply and out of our control. We will use reasonable endeavours to ensure the actual stones colour resembles the colour of the stone in the represented image on your order confirmation. Pearls may also vary in colour, owing to natural colour variation and sometimes the dyeing process, particularly with black pearls.

Metals too may vary in their colour between the represented images on screen and the actual item. We have made every attempt to represent the colour of the images as accurately as possible – any variations may be as a result of computer screen settings. Metal quality will not be impacted by this variation.

What does hydrothermal mean?

Hydrothermal means circulated with hot water: it refers to the process associated with creating synthetic stones.

Which metals do you use?

We offer sterling silver, 9 carat and 18 carat gold in all 3 colours – rose, yellow and white gold. We have also recently introduced platinum for our wedding ring styles.

What is plating?

Plating is the process of coating a metal in another colour, like painting; it’s a great way to get the look for less. Typically you plate sterling silver with either yellow gold or rose gold plating – we offer both colours (you wouldn’t put a white gold plate over a silver item – the item is already a silver colour). We ensure we have the thickest plating possible on our items, to help them last longer, but plating does come with some risks – please read below.

What are the risks with plating?

Plating is highly variable and may not last. A plated jewellery item is subject to wear and tear, which will remove the plating over time. How often you wear your plated jewellery item will impact how long the item will last too. For example, a bangle that you wear every day, and which may come into frequent contact with a desk or table, will be more affected than a pendant worn for a few hours once a month. Additionally, plating is affected by the chemical composition of each person’s skin – some people have more acid in their skin than others, which may accelerate plating loss. It’s impossible to say how long a plated item will last as everyone’s body – and the way they wear their item - is so different. While we plate each item as thickly as possible, and put a special lacquer over the top to assist in keeping the plate in place, we are not responsible for and will not accept any item for re-plating.

Pearls

Pink and black pearls may vary in their colour compared to the images shown on the website; this occurs due to natural variation and/or the dyeing process.

Engraving

Engraving is usually done with a laser machine to ensure accuracy and precision. Engraving of our Russian Ring Necklaces (as well as Russian bangles & rings) is done by machine and, due to the curvature of their surface, requires extensive setup time. You can watch more about that here in this video.

Your engraving may differ slighly from what is shown in our pictures, for reasons of item thickness, engraveable surface area, any slight variance in the metal itself. Engraving charges are $40 per surface, and you can select from a range of fonts being Arial, Latin and Cursive. We recommend limiting your engraving to 15 characters or less, owing to space requirements. With the russian ring necklaces or rings, we allow one name per ring. If we think your desired engraving message is too long, we'll be in touch.

What kind of chain do you use?

We have sourced and tested a number of different kinds of chain to be used for pendants, necklaces and bracelets. We have selected the curb diamond cut chain at 1.4mm in diameter, as it’s strong enough to accommodate pendants at the end while remaining flexible. In the event that there are supply issues with this style of chain, we will replace it with belcher, ball or trace chain, all with a similar diameter to the curb diamond cut. This replacement chain will not materially impact the price of the item.

What happens if there is an issue with my jewellery?

We strive to ensure that our jewellery is perfect when it's dispatched to you. It goes through several levels of quality assessment.

However, jewellery is like any other product you may purchase -  it is subject to wear and tear. There is a common misconception that this wear and tear is somehow related to the quality of an item, and that the jewellery will remain 'perfect'. This is not true; the only way for jewellery to remain 'perfect' is  to keep it in its box.

Sterling silver can easily become tarnished, pearls can be scratched and yes, diamonds CAN chip.

However, with some care, and by looking after your jewellery - as covered in our jewellery care book, received with purchase - your jewellery should last a long time.

We cannot be held accountable for any reasonable every day wear and tear or damage to any item that you have purchased from us. We are not obliged to fix it should this happen, nor are we liable to refund you. We will of course assist in whichever way we can, through advice or repairs.

If you want to know anything else, please just ask us.
